The attitude of the salesman is
magnetic. The greater his attitude, the more customers he develops and
vice versa. Attitude is what makes the difference. It cannot be copied
by competitors. Competitors may copy your style or product but your
attitude will make the difference; it will make you stand out. A good
attitude of the salesman is priceless. It sets him apart from
mediocrity.
You may not necessarily have control
over the things that happen around you but you have powers to control
the way you go about them. You have powers to determine the ways to go
about them by choosing the attitude to apply. You may choose to smile
even when you are unhappy! Successful people create a happy environment
all the time. Mark Twain said, ‘‘A man cannot be comfortable
without his own approval.’’ You have a lot of powers to resolve the ways
things will be as a salesman.
Are you afraid of sales target? This is
one of the biggest challenges average salesmen experience. They are
afraid of their sales target figures. They get scared and fail to take
necessary steps that will lead them to the top. Fear and success are two
worlds apart. If you want to succeed; face your fear!
When I talk to salespeople about sales
targets, I tell them to develop different targets in their minds that
are bigger than the ones they received in their offices. George Bernard
Shaw states it this way, ‘‘If you want to hit the mark, aim above the
mark.’’ Aim above your target and hit your target. When you do this, you
increase your inner ability to achieve results. This is the way
individuals are wired. Kill every fear and self-doubt. Never discount
your abilities; believe you are the best and the best will come your
way. This is the way to increase your ability to think positively.
Prospects and customers flock around a
positive minded salesman. Go everywhere with an aura of success and
happiness in you. Celebrate yourself always, be happy, be bold and
inventive. This is my regular advice to salesmen. Above all, believe
that everything is possible. You only need to think it, believe it and
work it out. You have all it takes to achieve this!
